2018 WINNER STORY
“This is incredible and truly a ‘dream come true.’ I’m so happy beyond description. It's amazing that I have been fortunate to become the world’s No. 1 especially after winning at this beautiful course at the Club at Nine Bridges.”
With his powerful long driver and precise chip shots, Koepka finished a 21-under total of 267, winning the event by four strokes over Gary Woodland (USA) and earning $1.71 million.
Koepka says he sensed his win at the 16th hole (par 4). His second shot landed near the bunker, where he hit a chip shot to put the ball as close to the hole as possible. The ball then dropped into the hole like magic.
Woodland also holed out for birdie at the 16th hole, but he incurred a painful bogey on the 17th (par 3). Two strokes ahead of Woodland, Koepka celebrated his victory by finishing off with an eagle at the last hole (par 5).
Before Jeju, Koepka won this season’s two major events in a row: the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship. In particular, he achieved back-to-back wins at the U.S. Open.
Koepka’s win at the second edition of THE CJ CUP became his fifth PGA TOUR title. And he rose to become the world’s No. 1.
