2017 WINNER STORY
to become champion of the inaugural CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES on October 22nd, 2017.
The 24-year-old took home 1.6 million USD and a trophy modeled after a Korean cultural heritage, Jikji.
Thomas, who seemed poised to cruise after a 9-under-par first round finish, would soon face the difficult winds of Jeju Island.
Thomas had initially predicted the winning score to be between 8 and 12-under-par depending on the wind condition, but the ferocious Jeju winds gave him a tough time as he later said it was almost a bizarre experience. Due to the strong winds picking up on the second round, Thomas played rather conservatively but he was still satisfied with his play.
The newly crowned champion smiled at the trophy and said he might learn how to write his name in Korean with his name accentuated in gold. The famous photo of him pointing at his name on the trophy received rave reviews from his fans in Korea.
With a growing anticipation on the possibility of Justin Thomas defending his title, THE CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES will be coming back to the Club at Nine Bridges in Jeju Island on October 18th.
